Joint Vital Signs and Position Estimation of Multiple Persons Using SIMO Radar

Respiration rate monitoring using ultra-wideband (UWB) radar is preferred because it provides contactless measurement without restricting the person’s privacy. This study considers a novel non-contact-based solution single-input multiple-output (SIMO) UWB impulse radar. In proposed system, collected data are converted to several narrow-band signals generalized Goertzel algorithm (GGA), which used as input of designed phased arrays for position estimation. this context, we introduce incoherent signal subspace methods (ISSM) direction arrivals (DOAs) and distance evaluation. Meanwhile, beam focusing approach determine each individual estimate their breathing automatically based on linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) beamformer. The experimental results prove that can achieve high estimation accuracy in variety test environments, with an error 2%, 5%, 2% DOA, distance, respiration rate, respectively.
